- I've downloaded the software. How do I begin?
The easy-to-use To-Do List will guide you through filling out your forms. If you
can’t see the To-Do List, you can find it under the “View” menu.
Once you have completed the “Family Information” form, it’s time
to begin filling in your tax information. You can start from the following four
places to start entering your tax information.
Your Workspace:
Recommended for general users. This unique “Workspace” is your powerful
one-stop console for personal tax preparation, enabling quick access to all forms.
From this page you can see what forms and slips you've used for your return so far
(links to the slips/forms shown in different color), as well as a summary of your
return information.
Your T1 form:
Recommended for users who are familiar with the T1 form. Our virtual form is in
vivid colour and crystal sharp, making it easy to navigate through your taxes. For
example, if you know that you have an amount to report at line 126 (rental income),
you can go directly to line 126 in your T1, and click on the green number. You will
then be automatically directed to the T1 Worksheet, which shows you exactly how
line 126 is calculated. From there eTaxCanada will continue to direct you to other
forms as they are necessary, always keeping you informed about how new numbers are
generated.
What-is-New:
Recommended if you want to learn about income tax changes for 2009. This eTaxCanada
exclusive page lists the main changes to the T1 Income Tax Return; even better,
there are links that will lead you to appropriate forms where you can fill out the
information. For example, clicking on the green link for line 210 under the section
“Pension income splitting” will lead you to the form T1032, which has
been newly introduced for 2009.
Index:
Recommended if you want to find a box, form or slip by the related tax topic. For
example, if you're wondering how to enter information about incomes from tips or
gratuities, you'll find appropriate links in the Index under "Tip Income."
By clicking on the green link for the form T1S, you will be led directly to line
9 on our T1 Worksheet, where you enter your income from tips.
- How do I fill out the tax forms?
You can open our tax forms from a few places, such as “Workspace”, “Index”
and “Whatz New” pages. However, the “Workspace” is the hub
of all slips and forms. But don’t be scared by a full page of blue links,
just type in the work you want to find in the search box left to the telescope button,
then hit that button, it will take you to what you are looking for. You can try
to type “T4”. There you go. On the forms you will notice both green
and blue numbers. The green numbers are those you fill in yourself, but in another
place; the blue numbers are calculated by the software. Clicking on any of the green
numbers will take you immediately to the source of that number. For example, on
the T1 Income Tax and Benefit Return, clicking on the amount for line 101, Employment
Income, will take you to the T1 Worksheet, where you are able to see the calculation
of your total employment income.
Some forms will require you to add slips – for example, to enter amount on
line 101 on T1 you must add your T4 slip. To add a slip, simply fill in the information
from your own copy onto the software’s copy.
- How do I add a slip?
You can add a new slip (T4 Slips and Other Slips) by clicking the "Add new"
button in the navigation tool bar with a "plus" (+)
icon.
By default, the navigation tool bar is the 2nd tool bar from the top. If you cannot
see this tool bar, you can show or hide the tool bar via menu: View > Toolbars
> Navigator.
- The T4 comes up blank without any fields to fill in. How do I add
a T4 slip?
You need to "add" a new T4 slip by clicking the "Add new"
button in the navigation tool bar with a "plus"
icon.
By default, the navigation tool bar is the 2nd tool bar from the top. If you cannot
see this tool bar, you can show or hide the tool bar via menu: View > Toolbars
> Navigator.
- Can a coupled return be done using eTaxCanada™ 2009?
Yes. eTaxCanada™ 2009 does support coupled returns. Enter both your own and
your partner's information on the "Family Information" page, enter your
dependant information in Schedule 5 when applicable; enter any T slips in both individual’s
Workspace, and other applicable forms, e.g. self-employment forms, then go to the
Family Workspace to review and split family based incomes, credits and tax reductions.
You will find shortcuts at the bottom of the window, there handy shortcuts will
help you navigate between Workspaces and forms easily.

you cannot complete your return together.
- I cannot find a form to add my medical expenses. What are my options?

331 on Schedule 1. If
you click on the link for line 330, it will lead you to the T1 Worksheet to fill
out the medical expenses related to 330. If you click on the link for line 331,
it will lead you to Schedule 5, the Details of
Dependent form, where you can fill out the medical expenses for your dependents.
- How do I save my return?
To save your return, go to menu > File > Save
(or click Ctrl + S), or click on the “Save Profile” button on the tool
bar. A pop-up window will let you select the location and file name for
your return. Make sure the file ends with the extension name ".T09".
You can open your file at any time to make further changes.
- How can I open a second return for my spouse/common law partner?
To open a second return, you can go to menu > File > New
(or click Ctrl + N) and it will open a new Workspace for you. If you try
to open a new a return while you have a ".T09" file open,
it will prompt you to save your work, if you have not already done so.
- I cannot find 319 for interest paid on
Student loans. Can you direct me to where I can find this information?
Field 319 (interest paid on Student loans) can be found
at the federal Schedule 1.
- How do I create another return in eTaxCanada
Online?
On eTaxCanada Online you can only create one return for each registered email address.
In order to create another return, you must create a new account using another email
address. Joint couple returns are supported on the 2009 version, so if you and your
spouse and common-law partner are filing your return together there's no need to
create a second account.
- How do I create my spouse's return?
eTaxCanada 2009 supports joint returns for you and your spouse or common-law partner,
provided you lived in the same providence during the tax year. To file a joint return,
simply check the box under "Joint return" on the "Family Information"
page.

This is a common problem with Windows XP may be introduced in a Windows Update.
One of the popular explanation is user applications access system resource, C: drive

when I try to use the NETFILE Wizard in eTaxCanada 2009 for Windows?
After any Group License is activated in eTaxCanada 2009 for Windows (version

the T09 profile. However, if user does not login the Windows with Administrator
