arrow To Avoid a Known Bug:

QUESTION: Why my input of the field is not included in the calculation?

ANSWER: It is a known bug in eTaxCanada™ 2006 version 2006.3 or lower.

BACKGROUND: Currently, the software does not accept the input string, for example, "1,000" as number "1000". So if "1,000" is entered into a field, the error message "Fail to update" will popup. Although "1,000" is displayed in the field, the software does not recognize your input and your return is not updated. Hence, the new amount of this field is not included in the calculation.

DEFINITION OF THE BUG: After you enter a wrong format of number, you cannot change the actual amount in this field - even a correct formatted number (e.g. "600") is entered in the same field - until the software is close and re-open. Similarly, fields require certain format may have the same problem.

WORKAROUND:

  1. Save your return, then close (exit) the program.
  2. Launch (run) eTaxCanada again.
  3. Go back to the target field to enter with correct format. (Please do not input "," in any numerical value).

We have fixed this bug in the 2006.4.0.5972 version. If you are using version 2006.3 or lower, please update your eTaxCanada™ 2006. For further assistance, please contact us at support@etaxcanada.com.

How to NETFILE?
  1. How do I know my profile is ready to NETFILE?

Once you have finished entering your information on the return, and have cleared the To-Do items from the To-Do list, your error-free return is ready to be filed with the CRA. Some Tips may appear in the To-Do list; however, these are friendly reminders, and can be ignored.

  1. How do I NETFILE?

Before you can use NETFILE you have to have a CRA provided four-digit access code. If you didn’t get the access code in the mail, then you can visit http://www.netfile.gc.ca/about-e.html to find out how you can obtain it. Then you need to generate the ".TAX" file. (Please check “How to generate my ".TAX" file” for more information) After the ".TAX" file is generated, you have to open your browser and go to http://www.netfile.gc.ca/ready-e.html. Please follow the online instructions to submit your .TAX file.

  1. How do I generate my ".TAX" file.

Once you have completed your error-free return and are ready to file, go to Menu > Tools > NETFILE or click the “NETFILE” button on the tool bar to start the eTaxCanada NETFILE wizard. The wizard will guide you through the process of generating the ".TAX" file. Once the process is completed, a file with a .TAX extension will be created, and you can choose where to save it. Please avoid using the same name as your ".T06" file.

Please read the NETFILE wizard pages carefully to confirm that you are eligible to use NETFILE. For more information on the CRA’s restrictions on the use of NETFILE please visit http://www.netfile.gc.ca/restrictions-e.html. Please remember where you stored your “.TAX” file because you will need to locate the file to upload it when you file your return on the CRA's website.

Important Notes:
Don't use the
".T06" file for NETFILE! If you change your return after generating the .TAX file, then you have to run the wizard to generate the .TAX file again; the software will NOT automatically update your .TAX file. When you give a file name to the generated .TAX file using the wizard, please avoid using the same name as your ".T06" file.

  1. When I use the NETFILE wizard I get the error:"An unhandled exception has occurred in your application...access is denied...." What can I do?

You may have selected your saved ".T06" file when you were prompted to save your .TAX file. In this case, your ".T06" file will have been over-written by the .TAX file, meaning even the file name will be the same. Please be careful to avoid this situation. If it does occur, you will need to re-enter your profile, unless you have a backup file.
